Crespi d’Adda is a workers’ village built in Art Nouveau style about 1878 about, and since 1995 has been included in UNESCO World Heritage. The Village of Crespi d’Adda is a real town built by the Crespi family, Lombard cotton manufacturers, for its employees and their families.

Crespi d’Adda: An impressive urban example of Enlightenment Italian Era between ‘800 e ‘900

Crespi d’Adda shows how some industrial were inspired by a social doctrine that would
protect the lives of their workers inside and outside the factory.
The idea was to give all employees a small villa with garden and provide at all necessary services in the community as church, school, hospital, recreational club, theater, public baths.
This model was inexorably terminated at the end of the Twenties.

Crespi d’Adda: a unique architectural complex located an extraordinary landscape

Crespi d’Adda – The landscape surrounding this workers’ village is unique because it is plugged into a sort of natural “cradle” and bordered by two rivers confluent.
Crespi d’Adda in this way has been conserved, hiding from the chaotic development of the surrounding area.
Interesting to visit is the Cemetery Crespi, who became a National Italian Monument. Inside you can find the chapel Crespi, with a pyramidal tower that seems to embrace the small tombs of the workers.
Today the village of Crespi houses a community largely descended from the workers who have lived or worked there. The factory has remained in operation until 2004, again in the cotton textile industry.
