ristorante a Trezzo sull'Adda

Today is the turn of Chef Alessandro who, after his funny interview, wants to tell a story involving beans and family problems.

Mysteries of the Visconti castle in Trezzo sull’Adda

In the characteristic town of Trezzo sull’Adda there’s a pretty castle with a glorious past.

The current remains of the fortress and medieval bridge are those of the construction in 1370 by Bernabò Visconti, Lord of Milan. The castle became the residence as well as a place for hunting and amusement.

In 1385, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, the nephew of Bernabò, arrested his uncle by deception to get the duchy and he shut him into the castle.

Bernabò received a special treatment, his enforced sojourn was cheered by the lover Donnina de’ Porri. Despite the many privileges to be a prisoner of high rank, the poor Bernabò did not last long in the castle.

Indeed, legend narrates that he was killed by a dish of poisoned beans, dish which he was fond. The poor victim, considered a prisoner uncomfortable, died for terrible pain.

The room where he was incarcerated Bernabò existed until the eighteenth and on one wall was found the inscription “Today me, tomorrow for you”. Could be a coincidence, but the fact is that a year after the devil appeared at the terrible nephew Gian Galeazzo and later died of the plague.

A legend from which the town of Trezzo was inspired to organize every year a beautiful festival. A nice evening to spend with friends in front of a delicious dish of beans. On the site you can find all the information about the next ‘fagiolata’.

Thanks to the Chef Alessandro which has revealed the secrets locked into the castle of Trezzo and lets us know that his best dish of beans is with the addition of bay leaves and bacon rind. You can find him at La Cantina restaurant in Trezzo sull’Adda. 😉
